A Smattering of Thoughts

Heading up this list is why we needed to know Dumbledore’s sexuality. I just feel it’s irrelevant to the stories.

Rox ’n’ Sox World Series. Yawn. I don’t have the highest esteem for baseball anymore; not since the last time the players struck and canceled the World Series in 1994. What with the Rockies only selling tickets over the internet–and that being an enormous failure yesterday–to working to trademark “Rocktober”, a term coined by a local sportsbar as a way to help the fans feel a part of the post season, I think the Rockies’ organization is bush league. And I’ve still heard people talking about the “Curse”–get over it, all ready–didn’t the Sox win in 2004? Breaking the Curse??  Not being a Sox fan, I feel that the finest example of the Curse occurred in 1986 against the mets in game six–thank you Billy Buckner! Poor bastard. The only really positive thing about the Series is the ballparks, historic Fenway and the lovely Coors Field.

Just when I thought the West had escaped the fire season, here comes more raging fires in Californina. Good luck to the residents and god protect the firefighters. The government has promised aid; in light of its help during the Katrina fiasco, I urge Californians to run the other way. Fast.

Chuck is a new show on NBC that I really like. It focuses on a bright, underachiever who works in what looks to be a Best Buy clone as part of its Nerd Herd. Awesome. He’s had a government database downloaded into his brain by an ex friend (thanks!), and is now being watched over by government operatives, one of whom is a pretty blonde gal he likes and the other having to work in his store. It sounds formulaic, but it is most worthy of your viewing time; it comes on Mondays before Heroes.

Switzerland has just elected a conservative government. Election issues were highlighted in an ad that showed white sheep kicking a black sheep out. Ouch! The group that ran the ad said it was about getting rid of bad immigrants. Looks like immigration is a hot topic not just here in the States.

  1. Such an ad as was shown in Switzerland would NEVER be allowed here in the UK, and rightly so, despite immigration being a sensitive issue here too. I’m amazed that in the 21st Century such a thing could occur. Mind you, having total independence, away from the constraints of membership of the EU or indeed anything else, gives Switzerland a lot more say in what it can do.
